I was sitting on the patio earlier today and saw this male hummingbird resting in a tree.

You are good. You got your camera and got the shot before he flew the coop. They are fast buggers. Don’t think I’ve seen one sit.

I had never seen them perch anywhere either, but sure enough, there are two of them that fly around the yard and sit in three different trees. They’ll stay for 5 or 10 minutes at a crack.

The hummingbirds around my cottage perch all the time. It’s a myth that they always fly while eating, especially at feeders.

It’s surprising how often we see them perched in a tree. They’re so tiny I can see why they aren’t spotted more often.
